The a-bitz-a

I just picked up this car for $50 sight unseen from a posting on the spridgets list. The poster said that they knew of a chrome bumpered, wire wheel Midget that was being rescued from a junkyard in Raliegh that was going for cheap. I immediately wrote them back and a few days later this car showed up in my driveway on the back of a flatbed.

I call this car the abitza, because it's a bitz a this and a bitz a that. The chassis # shows this car to be a GAN3L, which would make it a 68 Midget. The body identification # shows it to be a Sprite. It has tail lights and seats from a 1970 Sprite as well as the collapsable steering column. The guages are from a post '68 car but the switches are from a pre '68. The horn push and trim on the boot lid are from a Sprite while the grill is from a Midget. The dash had been replaced with a wooden dash and housed the standard guages plus a Lucas Voltmeter from a TR4A. The car has been totally rewired by hand. As I was dismanteling the car I noticed that something wasn't quite right up in the engine compartment, it seems that someone had welded a whole new front end onto the car from the pedalbox forward. More than likely this car is 3/4 Sprite with a Midget front. The car was last registered in 1986.

This car has no title, so it is going to be a parts car for my other Midget. The engine and tranny look to be in pretty good shape. All in all it looks like I got a lot for my $50. I had hoped for a salvagable body shell, and some good wire wheels and hubs, but hey, you can't win 'em all ;-)

These photos were taken with a Kodak DC20 digital camera on
a pretty cloudy day. Unfortunately the quality isn't the best.
